Mauro Giamboi and Van Oossanen Unveil Revolutionary Azzurra Superyacht Series

Italian visionary designer Mauro Giamboi has partnered with the renowned Dutch naval architecture firm Van Oossanen to launch a bold new series of luxury vessels: the Azzurra superyacht range. Spanning from 30 to 50 metres, these cutting-edge yachts are set to redefine the standards of performance, efficiency, and design in the semi-custom segment.

A Fusion of Italian Style and Dutch Engineering

The Azzurra line is the product of a creative synergy between Italian aesthetics and Dutch technical innovation. According to Perry Van Oossanen, the collaboration has produced yachts that are not only visually stunning but also engineered to “push the envelope of what’s achievable in this size segment.”

Each yacht in the Azzurra range is built upon Van Oossanen’s proven Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), allowing for exceptional fuel efficiency—offering savings of up to 20-30% at cruising speeds. This blend of artistry and performance ensures that the Azzurra range will appeal to owners who want sustainability without sacrificing luxury.

Introducing the Azzurra 40: A Game-Changer in Its Class

The first model to be revealed is the Azzurra 40, a 40.2-metre semi-custom platform that sets new benchmarks in onboard living. Designed to maximize outdoor enjoyment, the expansive aft deck is equipped with a sleek glass-fronted dip pool, sun loungers, and lounge seating. Fold-out bulwarks increase the available space to a generous 85 square metres, while easy access to the water is facilitated by wide steps leading to the swim platform.

Another standout feature is the expansive sundeck, which includes shaded lounge areas, alfresco dining, and space for sunbathing. The design cleverly balances open-air luxury with protected retreats for all-day comfort.

Unmatched Interior Comforts and Versatility

Inside, the Azzurra 40 impresses with a loft-style owner’s suite located on the upper deck. This elegant retreat includes a private balcony, casual dining space, office area, and lounge seating. Spanning 40 square metres, the suite is a sanctuary of privacy and panoramic sea views.

The yacht can accommodate up to 16 guests, thanks to a highly flexible cabin configuration ideal for charter operations. The design also includes quarters for nine crew members to ensure the highest level of service on board. There’s even the option to install a lift that connects all decks, enhancing accessibility.

Advanced Propulsion and Long-Range Capabilities

The Azzurra range is designed to support both conventional twin-engine propulsion and hybrid setups, offering owners flexibility and sustainability. The Azzurra 40 is expected to reach a top speed of 16 knots and a range of 4,000 nautical miles when cruising at 11 knots — making it ideal for long-distance adventures.

Two additional models in the series are already in development: the Azzurra 36, a slightly more compact version, and the Azzurra 48, an ice-class model built for challenging polar expeditions.

Giamboi’s Expanding Design Legacy

This announcement follows a recent series of high-concept designs from Mauro Giamboi, including an 80-metre yacht built for polar adventures and a 40-metre catamaran boasting the “largest, most immersive beach club” in its size class. These designs continue to demonstrate Giamboi’s flair for balancing daring aesthetics with smart functionality.

The Azzurra superyacht range not only marks a significant evolution in semi-custom yacht design but also cements the collaboration between Giamboi and Van Oossanen as one of the most exciting partnerships in the luxury marine industry.
